Upgrading from Word 95/WOPR 95 to Word 97

**** Tips for those upgrading from Word 95/WOPR 95 to Word 97 ****

First: get WOPR97! Second: there are
a few important issues that all WOPR users should be aware of if you are
planning on upgrading to Word 97.

First and foremost, WOPR 95 and the WOPR 95 Plus Pack! don't work with Word
97. (In fact, most major WordBasic programs will croak under Word 97.)

-- Running Both Word 95 and Word 97 on the Same Machine: --

If you have the disk space, you should strongly consider a "clean" install
of Office 97 ... in other words install it to a new directory rather than
installing it over your existing Office setup. The Office setup program
will find an existing Office on your hard drive and automatically install
over it, so you have to change the install directory default option.
Rename normal.dot before doing the installation. When the
Office installer asks if you want to zap out the old version of Office,
just say NO. With a clean install, WOPR 95 and the WOPR 95 Plus Pack! will
still be available in Word 95, but no vestiges of it will clutter up Word
97.

-- Installing Word 97 Over Word 95: --

If you have to upgrade over the top of Word 95, please do uninstall WOPR 95
and the WOPR 95 Plus Pack! first. We're still sorting out the details, but
you shouldn't see much of WOPR 95 or the WOPR 95 Plus Pack! in Word 97
after an uninstall and upgrade.

To uninstall the WOPR 95 Plus Pack! from Word 95, open the file INSTALL.DOC
from your \WOPR Plus! folder and click on the "Uninstall the WOPR Plus
Pack!" toolbar button or you can use the new preferred interface for
uninstalling programs in Windows by exiting Word, opening the Windows
Control Panel and choosing Add/Remove Programs and then selecting "WOPR
Plus Pack!"

To Uninstall WOPR 95 from Word 95, open the file WOPRINST.DOC from your
\WOPR95 folder, double-click on the sentance that reads "Double-Click Here
to Install and Uninstall WOPR 95", remove all of the WOPR utilities, exit
Word, open the Windows Control Panel and choose Add/Remove Programs and
then select "WOPR 95"

If you have already upgraded to Word 97 without first removing WOPR 95 or
the WOPR 95 Plus Pack! and you are now getting error messages when starting
Word, please follow these directions:

1) Exit Word
2) Delete all files in the \WOPR95 folder
3) Delete all files in the \WOPR Plus! folder
4) Delete the following files from Word's \Startup folder (C:\Microsoft
Office\Office\Startup by default) if they exist

tbedit95.ini
wopr95ta.ini
kmenu95.wll
pictools.wll
tbedit95.wll
toolbars.wll
wopr95ta.wll
2x4v95.dot
95wopr.dot
env95.dot
quickmrk.dot
startup.dot
toolbars.dot
woprplus.dot
zip4.dot
psside.dot

5) Delete the following files from Word's \Templates folder (C:\Microsoft
Office\Templates by default) if they exist

splash.dot
_undergd.wiz

6) If you were using the WOPR 95 Plus Pack! and had the Startup Splash
Screen enabled, start Word, open NORMAL.DOT, and delete the macros titled
AutoExec and BypassStartupDlg

That should remove all traces of WOPR 95 and the WOPR 95 Plus Pack from
your system and get rid of any WOPR related errors when starting Word 97.

7) If you are familiar with editing the Registry (NOTE: please do not
attempt these changes unless you are confident with the way that the
Registry works. If you do not understand the Registry, don't worry about
this step), delete the following registry keys if they exist:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Pinecliffe\WOPR Plus!

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\WOPR
Plus!

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\WOPR
95

If you are **NOT** planning on upgrading to WOPR 97 or you don't care about
saving any of your current WOPR settings for the upgrade then you may also
delete the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Pinecliffe\WOPR
