Upgrading from Word 6/WOPR 6 to Word 97

**** Tips for those upgrading from Word 6/WOPR 6 to Word 97 ****

First: Get WOPR97! Second: there are
a few important issues that all WOPR users should be aware of if you are
planning on upgrading to Word 97.

First and foremost, old versions of WOPR don't work with Word 97.

-- Running Both Word 6 and Word 97 on the Same Machine: --

If you have the disk space, you should strongly consider a "clean" install
of Office 97 ... in other words install it to a new directory rather than
installing it over your existing Office setup. The Office setup program
will find an existing Office on your hard drive and automatically install
over it, so you have to change the install directory default option.
Rename normal.dot before doing the installation. When the
Office installer asks if you want to zap out the old version of Office,
just say NO. With a clean install, WOPR 6 will still be available in Word 6,
but no vestiges of it will clutter up Word 97.

-- Installing Word 97 Over Word 6: --

If you have to upgrade over the top of Word 6, please
	UNINSTALL WOPR 6 FIRST.
That simple step will save you untold grief!

-- How to Uninstal WOPR 6 --
- 1. Remove all WOPR files from WINWORD\STARTUP -

These are the files you need to remove from WINWORD\STARTUP directory:
6wopr.dot
envr6.dot
kmenu.wll
spellar.ini
spellar.wll
tbedit6.*
wopr*.*
As a final step, remove WOPR.INI from the \WINDOWS directory.

- 2. Remove Menu entries for WOPRFileManager -

The uninstall routines that ship with WOPR don’t wipe out the menus entries
for File Manager, so do the following:

Use File, Templates and UnCheck all .DOT files
Choose Tools, Customize menu, select the "Menu" panel
In the "Change What Menu" list, select "&File"
In the "Position on Menu" list, select "WOPR File Manager...", then click on "Remove"
Also remove "WOPR File Save As..."
Now in the "Change What Menu" list, scroll down to the "&File (No Document)" entry
Remove "WOPR File Manager..."
Click on "Close", then choose File, SaveAll to save the changes.
Use File, Templates to reenable your .DOT Add-Ins

-- If you've already installed Word97 (Ouch!) --

Don't Panic. Follow the instructions for step 1 above.
You'll find you cannot use the procedures in step 2,
so instead rename your normal.dot to normal.old and
let Word 97 create a new normal.dot for itself.
